MetaFLO Technologies Inc., Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd. and Sensor Wireless Inc. Win Innovations@Work Awards

TORONTO, May 17 /CNW/ – Rogers Communications Inc. and PROFIT Magazine recently announced the winners of the third annual Innovations@Work Awards: MetaFLO Technologies Inc., Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd. and Sensor Wireless Inc. This award is another example of Rogers commitment to small businesses.

“Small businesses are the engine of our economy. Most of us interact with a small business every day,” said Gordon Stein, Vice President, Business Segment. “Rogers is a proud supporter of small businesses, and in keeping with the spirit of the late Ted Rogers’ commitment to innovation, we are pleased to celebrate their ideas and successes.”

“The caliber of this year’s entrants verified the vitality, talent, creativity and originality of Canadian small businesses,” said Ian Portsmouth, Editor-in-Chief, PROFIT Magazine. “By developing valuable new products and services, entrepreneurial firms continue to lead the way in shaping how we live, work and play.”

As Canada’s leading recognition program for innovative businesses, the Innovations@Work Award celebrates unique management practices, cutting-edge products and creative marketing initiatives in companies with fewer than 20 employees. Rogers and PROFIT congratulate MetaFLO Technologies (Toronto, ON), Blue-Zone Technologies (Concord, ON) and Sensor Wireless (Charlottetown, PEI) for their achievement.

MetaFLO Technologies is an environmental technology company that has developed proprietary technologies to address the liquid-waste management needs of a broad range of industrial markets.

“This recognition creates a high level of awareness of our solidification process – a critical step towards the successful commercialization of our innovative technologies. This kind of recognition will really give MetaFLO a tremendous boost,” said Andrew McNabb, president and CEO, MetaFLO Technologies.

Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd. specializes in the capture of routinely-vented anesthetics, measurably reducing the emissions of toxic and greenhouse gases from hospital operating rooms. The captured anesthetic is then used to secure a new source of supply for valuable generic anesthetics.

“This award is a special honour. It recognizes the hard work of Blue-Zone’s team to pioneer a solution to a major global problem. It is a gratifying confirmation that we have made great strides down the right path to the solution of curbing toxic and GHG emissions,” said Dusanka Filipovic, president, Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd.

Sensor Wireless develops food damage sensors that reduce product waste by detecting when foods such as potatoes and eggs or manufactured food products are exposed to potentially damaging conditions during production and distribution.

“Attracting new people and new business from the world’s most progressive companies like Rogers is allowing us to realize more value in our technology and gives us the ability to become a going concern in the technology marketplace. Winning this award builds our confidence in moving the business forward and lends credit to the tireless efforts of our staff,” said Wayd McNally, president, Sensor Wireless.

The 2010 Innovations@Work Awards will open for entries in September. For more information about the award program, visit www.innovationsatwork.ca.
